Meta Reduces Quest Prices

Mark Zuckerberg announced that it is reducing the price of Quest Pro and Quest 2 devices

The Quest Pro was announced in October and wanted to focus on the business market not the consumer virtual reality market. It looks like the business market is not biting as this dramatic drop in price for the Quest Pro from $1499 to $999. That is 1/3 price reduction just 4 month after the Quest Pro was launched. It looks like the switch will try to get their new flagship device into the hands of more VR consumer market users.

More developers may get the Quest Pro which may bring more businesses

I have to say cutting the price of their Quest Pro VR headset to $999 will be a better price point to get their flagship device out to the masses. In a market where high-end VR headsets have traditionally been out of reach for the average customer, $1499 is not worth the expenditure. Meta’s decision to reduce the price of their Quest 2 headset is a more step for entry level VR consumers who are curious.

For the uninitiated, the Quest 2 headset is one of the most powerful and widely used VR headsets on the market. The Quest 2 boasts high resolution displays, wireless connectivity, and support for a wide range of VR game and experiences. The higher price tag is a barrier for many potential buyers, especially those who are new to the world of VR. Will this Quest 2 price cut impact them?

Quest Pro

Quest Pro is Meta’s most advanced headset yet. It aims to be a whole new way to work, create and collaborate

Quest 2

Selling over 20 million devices, the Quest 2 has become the staple VR headset for everyday users and new VR explorers.

With this price cut, Meta is making a smart move by opening up the VR market to a wider audience. By reducing the cost of entry, more people will be able to experience the joys of virtual reality without breaking the bank. This is particularly important as VR continues to evolve and become more mainstream, with applications in fields such as education, healthcare, and entertainment.

But the price cut is not just good news for consumers. It’s also a smart business move for Meta. As more people adopt VR, Meta will be well-positioned to capture a larger share of the market, which will ultimately translate into increased revenue and profits. Businesses didn’t bite on the $1499 price 4 months ago, but may with more developers purchasing these devices.

Additionally, some privacy issues come along from Facebook’s past. Some people have brought up how Facebook/Meta will use Face tracking and eye tracking and try to monetize this very sensitive information.

That being said, it’s worth noting that VR is still not for everyone. Some people may find it uncomfortable or even nauseating, and the technology is still evolving in terms of both hardware and software. However, for those who are interested in VR, the Quest 2 headset is an excellent option, and the new price point makes it more accessible than ever. More VR developers and normal users, the $999 price point makes it easer for you to upgrade to their higher end device to continue your VR exploration.

VR has the potential to revolutionize a wide range of industries, and this price cut is a major step towards realizing that potential. So if you’ve been thinking about dipping your toes into the world of virtual reality, now is a great time to do it!
